課程概述 |
Given their indexical relations to place and its ability to produce forms of affect, musics belong to a wide range of practices that contribute to place making. How might we as people who study or make music understand relationships between place, personhood, and power that music forms, reifies, and reproduces? How might place be part of the ways that we understand musics? In this course we will consider ethnomusicological, anthropological, ecomusicological approaches to these questions. We will also look at the ways that musics are part of migration and mobility |
課程目標 |
(1) develop an appreciation for the role of place in constituting personhood and ethics
(2) examine ethnomusicological and anthropological approaches to the relationships between music making ad place making
(3) strengthen abilities in archival and ethnographic field research
(4) increase abilities in writing ethnography |
課程要求 |
this course will alternate among mini-lectures, discussion of readings, hands-on projects, and peer critiques of project work. During the semester, each participant in the course will be responsible as a discussion leader for at least one week’s readings, according to a rota of presentations. Students in the course will also participate on the online discussion board, particularly sharing their experimental |
